ARTS Promotes Three XML Schemas to Standard

Washington D.C., December 15, 2005 – The Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS) has announced that three of their standard XML schemas, POSlog v2.1, Price v2.0 and Customer v2.0 have been promoted to final standards in accordance with the ARTS IP Policy.  These schemas have been available in the public domain for more than two years, enhanced by public and member comments and implemented in many retailer and vendor applications.

The ARTS Board, comprised of 12 retailer and 11 vendor representatives, provided final review and approval in November.   Standards approved by the Board are fully covered by the ARTS IP Policy, protecting implementers from future infringement claims.

POSlog, with more than 1,000 data elements captured at the point of service, is a truly global standard that has been implemented by companies in Japan, Australia, across Europe and throughout the United States and Canada, and has been downloaded by developers in over 70 countries.

Price has been implemented to support price look-up, instant price changes and sharing of price information across disparate applications, while Customer is implemented by successful CRM vendors to provide consistent information to multiple applications and to enable online loyalty programs.

For more information on these schemas, visit www.nrf-arts.org or contact arts@nrf.com.  These schemas will be demonstrated in the ARTS Pavilion, Booth 867 at the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) Annual Convention & EXPO, January 15 – 18, 2006 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS) of the National Retail Federation (NRF) is an international membership organization dedicated to reducing the costs of technology through standards.  Since 1993, ARTS has been delivering application standards exclusively to the retail industry.  ARTS has four standards: The Standard Relational Data Model, UnifiedPOS, IXRetail, and the Standard RFPs.  Membership is open to all members of the international technology community-retailers from all industry segments, application developers and hardware companies.

The National Retail Federation is the world's largest retail trade association, with membership that comprises all retail formats and channels of distribution including department, specialty, discount, catalog, Internet, independent stores, chain restaurants, drug stores and grocery stores as well as the industry's key trading partners of retail goods and services. NRF represents an industry with more than 1.4 million U.S. retail establishments, more than 23 million employees - about one in five American workers - and 2004 sales of $4.1 trillion. As the industry umbrella group, NRF also represents more than 100 state, national and international retail associations. www.nrf.com.
