Point of Sale Background Information
Since 1977, two EAN.UCC implementations have been used for identifying products
- In the U.S. and Canada, the primary barcode symbol that is scanned at point of sale is the U.P.C. which contains 12-digits in the number
- The rest of the world uses EAN symbols which can contain either 8 or 13-digits in the number
