ARTS Data Model v5.0
The newest version of the ARTS Data Model, the first major update since 2003, will be distributed on CD to members this month. Version 5.0 of the Model adds approximately 178 new entities and 550 attributes for new totals of 602 tables and 4000+ entities. Major enhancements include:

  1. Continued Expansion of Model into Enterprise
    • Definition of Site, allowing co-location of Retail Store, Distribution Center and Inventory Location
    • Re-definition of Employee as Worker
    • Enhancements and corrections to the Financial Ledger subject-area
  2. Party Name and Address Improvements
  3. Synchronization with IXRetail Schemas POSlog v2.1 and Worker v1.0
  4. Separation of Item Inventory from Stock Ledger
  5. Corrections and Minor Revisions

ARTS Data Model v5.0 is a release for comments, following the new ARTS IP Policy requirement for a 60-day review period. After two years in development and three detailed reviews by the Data Model committee, no significant modifications are expected.

Implementers of the Data Model may begin planning for updating to
version 5.0.

ARTS-NRF New Standard RFP for Warehouse Management Systems
The new Request for Proposal (RFP) for Warehouse Management Systems will be released May 16, 2005. This is the fifth RPF developed by ARTS and NRF to guide retailers in their selection of new applications. ARTS wishes to thank all who participated in the development of this RFP including RadioShack, Target, CSK Auto, Reebok, IBM, Manhattan Associates, BearingPoint, UCC, Retek, and Clicks and Mortar.

► The ARTS Board will meet with IXRetail and Data Model technical committees to discuss methods for increased coordination between these committees and review the new ARTS Standards Development process that has been modified to conform to the IP Policy. New work teams will be created to develop schemas to ease integration of the new WMS RFP. You may still register to attend.

ARTS Standards Pavilion Premieres at Retail Solutions, Birmingham, UK, June 7-9, 2005
The ARTS Standard Pavilion, the popular one-stop standards exhibit of ARTS-conformant vendors, will make its inaugural international appearance next month at Retail Solutions, the leading technology exhibition for the UK’s fast moving retail sector. Microsoft, PCMS, AccessVia and 360Commerce are participating pavilion sponsors who will display and present their use of ARTS standards to the European retail community, playing a key role in the ARTS objective of increasing global visibility to its international standards and members who implement ARTS standards. Interested parties are invited to stop by the Pavilion to explore the newest developments in technology that reduce costs by incorporating ARTS standards. Pavilion sponsors will also attend the prominent Retail Week Vendors Award Dinner.
