ARTS MEMBERS UPDATE - July 2003

Exclusive retail standards information for Members Only

Top Story of the Month

The ARTS Board met at Retail Systems on June 9th and decided on new policies to drive ARTS standards:

Nonmembers will now pay US$149 to download the technical documentation for ARTS XML schemas. The Charter, executive overview and schema will continue to be provided at no charge and members will continue to have complete access to the technical documentation at no additional charge. Revenues from downloads will be allocated to schema maintenance and enhancements.

ARTS will develop and administer phase one of POSlog conformance testing. Phase one will be a self-test to allow vendors to align their applications to POSlog before taking the formal test, which will include interoperability.

The IXRetail and UnifiedPOS administrative committees, composed of representatives of both the ARTS Board and NRF's CIO Council were abolished in favor of active cooperation and coordination with the total CIO Council.

Three new members were elected to the Board: Bob Graham of Smart and Final, Bob Killough of Hollywood Entertainment and David Ashcraft of NCR. Both Mr. Graham and Mr. Killough have successfully implemented ARTS standards at their companies.

Complete minutes of the meeting are available on the ARTS website in the members only area.

New Schemas Released to the Public
POSlog version 2 and the first version of the Stored Value schema have been released to the public and posted to the ARTS website for downloading. See press releases on www.nrf-arts.org for complete information. ARTS experts are available to help you implement this and all of our standards.
UnifiedPOS release 1.8 to be posted for Review and Comment
The next release of UnifiedPOS, version 1.8, will be posted next week to www.nrf-arts.org for review and comment. This is your opportunity to influence the next release of this critical standard.
First Release of Digital Asset Management Schema set for Early August
The first release of the Digital Asset Management (DAM) schema is expected in early August. This schema will facilitate communication of images between retailers and manufacturers and provide data to classify, store and retrieve images. This schema will be coordinated with the standard DAM RFP.
